Is your IT Infrastructure keeping up with your business growth?

In the world of SME’s (small and medium sized business) you will often find businesses who are so resilient to technology malfunctions. They are great at improvising, making it work and simply finding away, while this is an incredible quality it is not sustainable and in the long run will hinder your next level growth.

We recently visited a client who had a great IP telephone system, however they often experienced poor quality calls which resulted in them mostly using their cell phones. They made a way, found a solution and got on with business…on the opposite end they were wasting their investment in quality hardware, driving up cell phone expenses and probably losing credibility with potential clients. We of course investigated and corrected the problem, but how many SME’s just make do at the expense of their business growth?

We are living in the digital age,  everything happens through technology and so your growth plans must include your IT infrastructure and it does not need to be expensive, below are some tips to help manage upgrade expenses:

  • Don’t allow yourself to be exploited by the skilled sales person, you do not need to upgrade everything so that it is compatible. Hybrid solutions are able to function just as well with no inconvenience to your operations or budget.
  • If you absolutely need to upgrade infrastructure make sure it is not rigid, and allows for flexibility and scalability.
  • Opt for “rent to own” solutions and avoid signing rental agreements for periods longer than 36 months. Technology is fast paced and becomes obsolete – for a longer rental periods insist on a clause for the upgrading of equipment.
  • Seek guidance and consultation from a trusted MSP, the effects of archaic & ineffective equipment can be lasting and irreparable.
